Bluetooth speakers are lightweight, portable and give you a wireless connection to just about any device. They can be pricey as well. If you're on a budget, you can still get quality Bluetooth speakers at an affordable price. We've rounded up several affordable Bluetooth speakers below based on ratings, performance, features, durability, and other considerations. So if you don't want to spend too much on a wireless Bluetooth speaker, you've come to the right place.
JBL GO2
The JBL Go 2 is a very small wireless speaker that fits in a pocket and sounds decent enough for its tiny size.
When it comes to audio performance, it's usually the case that larger speakers sound better simply because they have more room to pack in better drivers that can move more air. It's just physics. That said, however, there are speakers that punch way above what their size suggests-the JBL GO 2 is one of those speakers: its small size limits its audio performance potential, it can get surprisingly loud, even if the bass response can't keep up with the clean-sounding mids and highs.
Plus, it has speakerphone capabilities that help make it one of the most well-rounded ultra-compact speakers on the market. In addition, with its new IPX7 waterproof design, GO 2 gives music lovers the opportunity to bring their speaker poolside, or to the beach.
Yet its 5-hour battery life leaves something to be desired but, for with an affordable price, this IPX7 waterproof speaker is a steal for those who need portability above all else.
MONSTER Superstar Hotshot
It is the most compact of Monster's SuperStar line of portable wireless speakers. While small enough to clip to a backpack, jacket or belt loop, the HotShot packs a sizeable punch with portable Pure Monster Sound.
It has good sound quality and is a good price. I would not compare it to my Bose or some of the other units out there because it is what it is; a basic bluetooth speaker with decent sound at a decent price. The fact that you could get any bass response from a speaker this small is surprising, but the amount you actually get is dumbfounding. That said, if you play very punchy bass heavy songs, you will be pushing this speaker to its physical and electronic limits, and it will distort. For most any other musical genre, the speaker is very impressive. Sometimes I am genuinely blown away that this much sound comes out of such a little speaker.
Also, with bass response comes vibration. Because of the light weight of this speaker, the vibration will cause the HotShot to move around quite a bit, and if stood upright it will likely fall right off of whatever elevated surface you might have it on. The easy remedy is to lay it flat on its back. Further pluses, it has NFC and speakerphone capability, small enough to take anywhere, charges with a mini-USB cable, and pairs easily with my mobile devices.
Minuses: As portable as this speaker is, it would be nice if it were IPX6 or IPX7 waterproof. Some might complain about a 5-hour battery life, but what do you expect for such a small speaker with such a low price?
SONY SRS-XB10
The grenade-size SRS-XB10 is the smallest and most basic of the new speakers in Sony's line of Extra Bass Bluetooth speakers. The tiny, water-resistant gadget delivers solid audio, with surprisingly rich bass response, for its size and price.
I was looking for something robust to take to the beach, with loud volume, and long battery life, but also light weight and with just the right size. This speaker has all these features.
As far as that sound goes, for this type of little mono speaker, it doesn't get much better. It's still not great and the speaker distorts at higher volumes and with certain bass frequencies.
The mono SRS-XB10 can also be linked with another unit to form a stereo pair and the Bluetooth pairing is very easy, and the controls are intuitive. In addition, I particularly like the added detachable support, which allows to place the speaker horizontally greatly enhancing the sound quality. Also, while the speaker is at maximum volume and even standing vertically, the rubber bottom keeps it steady without vibration. Overall this is an excellent speaker to carry anywhere outdoors, or to just use indoors, and it is very recommended.
