Xiaomi Mi Pocket Speaker 2 Review

Xiaomi is known to have a lot diverse products in various categories, such as Smartphones, Action Cam, Headphones, Smart TV, Smart Band, and Speakers. Bluetooth Speaker is one of them and this time I will review Mi Pocket Speaker 2. The main feature of Mi Pocket Speaker 2 is it’s 5W speaker which is a Tymphany work. FYI, Tymphany is a German company engaged in making drivers for audio devices.

The BOX

My first impression when I saw the box from Mi Pocket Speaker 2, is “Simple”. The basic color is white with the dots accents in all parts of the box cover gives elegance impression, but unfortunately, the “MI” logo in the top of the box’s lid is clearless, actually the “MI” logo is not too small but not too big, the “MI” logo is around the dots accent making the “MI” logo obscured. Is that really the goal? If so, it is a pity.  At the bottom of the box there are detailed features of Mi Pocket Speaker 2 in Chinese language.

What’s Inside the BOX?

When opening the Box we get the speaker and an instruction. Mi Pocket Speaker 2 has a unique design that is cylindrical.  I think speakers with cylindrical designs are unique. Mi Pocket Speaker 2’s material used is a combination of polycarbonate, ABS, and aluminum.

Mi Pocket Speaker 2 has a small size with a height of only 9.1 cm and a width of 5.8 cm as the name suggests Mi Pocket Speaker 2 is about the size of a pocket making it easy to carry around.  The micro USB is located at the lower back and the LED notification at the lower front. For Mi Pocket Speaker 2 body matte texture, I really like it, unlike the other pocket speakers with price in this class, but the quality of Mi Pocket Speaker 2 feels like an upper class. Mi Pocket Speaker 2 puts the speaker at the top and that’s what makes me fall in love with it. By placing the speaker at the top, the sound vault coming out of the Mi Pocket Speaker 2 becomes wider.  At the bottom of the Mi pocket speaker there is a rubber pad that makes it not slippery. Mi Pocket Speaker 2 is based on Bluetooth 4.1 connection and you should be able to play your music on the speaker by up to 10 meters in open area. For power matters, Mi Pocket Speaker 2 has a 1200 mAh battery, with this size battery capacity, Mi Pocket Speaker 2 can light up to 7 hours.

Usage Experience

When I first operated the Mi Pocket Speaker 2, I felt confused. Where is the button? because Mi Pocket Speaker 2 does not have a button unlike other Pocket Speakers. Actually the operation of Mi Pocket Speaker 2 is very easy, we just need to press and rotate it. To turn on the Mi Pocket speaker 2, you need to remove the security rubber between the top and the Mi pocket speak 2 body, then press and hold the Power and / or Play / Pause button at the top until you hear a notification and then the LED blinks. It will then automatically go to pairing mode and on your bluetooth device, you need to select the speaker’s name (written in Chinese), and you will hear Chinese language notifications. To increase the volume you need to rotate the dial clockwise and to decrease it you need to rotate it counter clockwise. However, there is no indication if you have reached the maximum volume because you can continue playing it. And when you disconnect the bluetooth you will hear the Chinese language notification. To turn it off you need to press and hold the Power and / or Play / Pause button at the top until you hear a notification and then the LED blinks again. You can also pick up phone calls while listening to music using Mi Pocket Speaker 2 by pressing Power and / or Play / Pause button at the top.

Functional Test

During the experience of using Mi Pocket Speaker 2 there is no problem whatsoever. All parts of this Mi Pocket Speaker 2 function properly.
