Headphones get tangled up in your pocket or get caught on zippers? Thankfully, with the true wireless technology, those days are behind us. The term "true wireless earbuds" has been around for quite a while. It refers to Bluetooth earbuds that have neither cords or wires between them nor to an audio source, giving us true range of motion.
When cable-free designs became popularized by the Apple AirPods, plenty of challengers have appeared and battled with Apple's wireless earbuds in audio quality and appearance. Although design limitations, operational issues, and poor battery life defined much of the true wireless offerings, we are glad to see the category has quickly matured and we finally have some standout brands.
AirPods

All the groundbreaking things AirPods can do are driven by the custom-designed teeny-tiny piece of hardware—Apple W1 chip, which is Apple's new technology for making Bluetooth a lot more user-friendly.
It produces extremely efficient wireless for a better connection and improved sound. When you turn it on besides your unlocked iPhone or iPad and click "connect", it will be automatically paired with any other Apple gadget that's signed in to your iCloud account and sound switches instantly between the devices.

The W1 chip also helps improve battery life: it delivers an industry-leading 4-5 hours of listening time on one charge. And thanks to a charging case that holds multiple additional charges they're made to keep up with you for more than 24 hours of listening time.
Optical sensors and motion accelerometers work with the W1 chip to automatically control the audio and engage the microphone, giving you the ability to use one or both AirPods. They also enable AirPods to play sound as soon as they're in your ears.
Bragi

An innovative product on multiple levels, the Bragi Dash is a truly cable-free wireless earphone pair that doubles as a fitness tracker. It delivered some good features for a first-generation product, including secure fit, onboard media storage and accurately counts steps. But those positives were outweighed by poor battery life, an unreliable connection, poor sound quality as well as inaccurate heart rate measurements.
The follow-up Dash Pro is a "polished, reloaded, reengineered sequel" of the original and it is billed as the world's first "wireless ear computer".
This version is made to fix all of the problems of the original Dash, getting the company back on track toward making brilliant-sounding, truly wireless earbuds with advanced intelligence. Bragi also promised improved connectivity, longer battery life, improved voice calling, and added a real-time language translation feature.

Integrated with iTranslate, Dash Pro brings real-time face-to-face conversational language translation to audio devices for the first time in around 40 different languages. Like the original version, there's 4GB of internal storage for playing music directly from the earphones; both touch and "kinetic" motion controls is added for users to access core features in situations where their hands are preoccupied with other things.
For those who just want a solid pair of wireless earbuds with good audio and a nice design, Bragi has The Headphone—a pair of wireless buds that cost significantly less than the Dash. It boasted fewer features: lack the activity tracking and live translation skills of its brothers in the Bragi's family and were therefore cheaper and less complicated. Plus, it is noted that they've lost some of the "finesse and shine of the more premium set," especially with the downgrade from touchpad controls to buttons. In return, The Headphone offers solid connectivity and improved battery life. The audio also may not quite match competing earbuds from Sony or Bose but for wireless earbuds at a low price, they sound excellent.
SAMSUNG Gear IconX
Samsung stepped into the nascent market of truly wireless earbuds with its first pair of fully wireless earbuds, the Gear IconX. It packs a wealth of features into a sleek and sporty package.

Each bud comes with interchangeable wings and eartips, and it's important you have the right ones attached before you do anything. 4GB of onboard storage allows you to listen to music without your phone and it comes in handy if you want to use the IconX earbuds for running or other workouts. The IconX also has the Ambient Sound, which can amplify the noises around you, so you can still hear things while wearing the buds. But weak-kneed battery life of less than two hours made the IconX all but dead on arrival: its battery life is estimated at 3 hours on its own as a fitness tracker and music player, or an hour and a half when paired and streaming from a phone.

The year 2017 has seen this company releasing an updated version. This time around, Samsung focused on the first generation's misses: the new version come with more than two times the battery life of their 2016 predecessors—a little more than 4 hours of battery life. The new IconX also adds Bixby into the mix, though it is reported still somewhat unreliable at both voice recognition and delivering relevant information.

Jabra Elite Sport
Jabra is a well-known brand for high quality audio and several of the world's first in audio, including the first Bluetooth headset and the first sports headphones with an integrated heart-rate monitor.

Pros: The Jabra Elite Sport are currently the ultimate fully waterproof true wireless earphones for runners and other kinds of athletes, with features like a built-in heart-rate monitor and sensors for tracking running and other high-impact exercises.
