The past years has seen Massdrop quickly becoming a hub on the internet for headphone enthusiasts, especially with the introduction of exclusive products which they help create in cooperation with popular audiophile headphone brands. It's safe to say that Massdrop has played a decent role in both introducing new products to the headphone community while highlighting others through their group-purchase system. It's time to check them out!
Massdrop x AKG K7XX Audiophile Headphones
Like other AKGs, the K7XX has an upper mid bump that brings female vocals and some of the fundamentals of string instruments forward. There are some slight dips in the middle and lower parts of the mids, but are generally not going to color the sound in the mids to quite the degree that the bump in the upper mids does. Overall the mids are quite clean, with a good vocal presentation that's very forward and doesn't have a lot of depth. The bass is the real surprise of this headphone, extending deep with good impact, this is something not found in many open back headphones, let alone one at this price.

Being open-backed also provides these headphones major advantages in comfort. And the other part of this comfortable design comes from the cups themselves. These huge discs feature a fierce combination of velour padding and memory foam—and your sensitive ears will likely fit completely inside of them. All you'll feel is the soft padding on the sides of your head.
In my mind, the sound is actually great for gaming. The soundstage, while not exceptional, does offer very pretty good separation. Forward highs will make gunshots and other sound effects stand out while the slightly muffled bass will make explosions sound slightly less piercing. You might have a bit more trouble hearing gunshots due to recessed mids, but at least these headphones are detailed. No microphone on the cable or headphones means you have to figure that out yourself though.
Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones
If you know audio gear, you know the Sennheiser HD 650. As the company's flagship from 2003 to 2009, this open-back headphone has shown serious staying power. Praised for its richly detailed, effortlessly enjoyable sound, it remains one of the most talked-about products on Head-Fi today—and is still widely considered among the best headphones under $1,000.
Teamed up with Sennheiser on its first-ever community-driven design partnership, the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX has that same great sound plus a few updates, and a price that makes it even easier to love.

Based on feedback from the community, this iteration has also been updated with a detachable 6-foot cable (compared to the original's 10-foot cable) and a plug more versatile for everyday laptop, phone, and DAP use than the standard ¼-inch plug.
Nothing has changed about the 650's sound signature — the same golden grit, silky smooth bass, and ultra-detailed topside are all present and accounted for here. But Massdrop has re-sculpted some key design traits for better usability and, best of all, the company will offer them as low as $250.
Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Headphones
The Massdrop X Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee is a $149 open-backed headphone with a detachable cable that's exclusive to Massdrop. Unlike some other "produced by Massdrop" products...This one is actually made by Sennheiser, in their factory in Ireland.

The headset offers a better, contemporary design and provides the comfort of long hours listening experience, no-fatigue. weighs almost 260 grams, making it the lightest over-the-ear headphone. It also offers a 2.7m long removable cable with 3.5 mm port. Its sound nature felt more balanced with the different levels of the music plus, providing a wide stereo quality rendering. The biggest change is the HD58X is more sensitive, so it plays louder at the same volume setting on my headphone amplifier. And some of the difference can be credited to the HD58X's impedance: it's rated at 150 ohms, which is higher than average, but the HD580 is a very high 300 ohms. So if you want headphones provide a balanced sound nature and you can wear them for long hours, the HD58X headphones will be worth the experience and purchase at this price.
Massdrop x Fostex TR-X00
Made in collaboration with Fostex, a brand that's produced innovative audio gear since 1949, these headphones feature ebony ear cups, a magnesium alloy frame, and Fostex's signature biodynamic drivers.

Equipped with the biodynamic cone Fostex first developed in the late '80s, which delivers a sound unique to any other driver structure, the TR-X00 benefits from years of iteration on the initial design. The higher magnetic flux density in these headphones creates instant attack and decay for a crisper, more detailed sound signature. With the emphasis on the low end toned down slightly from the TH-600, the rich bass meets the Fostex standard without becoming bloated. The result is an incredibly intimate sound, like being front row at a small venue. I've found price to performance to exceed the original TH600 by a small factor due to the price drop and the addition of the nice wooden cups.
Massdrop x Koss ESP/95X
If you've never listened to a pair of electrostatic headphones, you're missing out. They offer the most authentic, open, and warm sounds. Koss and Massdrop teamed up to offer a new edition of the audiophile classic ESP/950 for an amazing price.
