I’ve been imagining the moment when I get the ability to control items around the house with a simple push of a button or a voice command and perform these tasks remotely via smartphones. And I can arrive at home at a comfortable temperature with all the necessary lights and gadgets turned on. In a word, I want all of the control of my home lies right in the palm of my hand.
I know there are plenty of individual devices available which allow you to monitor your home from anywhere using your phone or tablet. Entry-level systems usually include some door and window sensors, a motion detector, and a hub that communicates with these devices through Internet.
The dream has partly cone true when I got the giveaway from ValueQ. Broadlink S1 Smart Home Alarm Security Suit is such a system. This smart home alarm kit consists of 4 parts: S1 Host + 433MHz IR Motion Sensor + 433MHz

S1 Host:
• It is the brain of the Broadlink alarm security kit and supports connecting with up to 16 sensors. You can create your own Smart Home Network with the smart host through the internet, allowing you to control, monitor other devices.
• Support local and remote control, lighting, air conditioner, TV, etc..
Like most connected home systems, the S1 features a central brain that receives signals from an array of sensors around the user’s home. According to the instruction, in the case of the S1, a total of 16 different sensors can be connected to one hub, which should prove to be enough to cover the needs of most households. Yet the starter kit I’ve received comes with two sensors, and more can be purchased after that.
The two sensors that are available are the door and infrared (PIR) motion sensor.
The former can be used to monitor doors, windows, and anything else that needs to open or close. Just like the motion sensor, what the user does with the knowledge that a door is open will depend on their needs.
Windows Door Sensor:
• Get alerted if doors and windows are opened.
• Powered by 2 x AAA battery (included).
• Wireless transmitting distance: Less than 100m (in open air).
While the latter could be used to turn on the lights in a room automatically when someone walks in. Or, it could be used just to alert the homeowner that motion was detected if there shouldn’t be any.
IR Motion Sensor:
• This motion sensor is based on the human infrared spectrum detection technology.
• The sensor detects human or pet activity by sensing the infrared heat from the human or pet body.
• No electrician required, this is a typical DIY installation and affordable for conversion certain windows and doors or focues on certain rooms or the entire home / garage.
• Powered by 2 x AA battery (included).
• IR detection range transmitting distance: About 120m (in open air).
Aside from the sensors, the S1 also includes a key fob that allows users to arm their sensors with a quick press. Users are allowed to control your smart home by this portable remote controller.
