Vivo Y93 is the new budget offering from Vivo housing the latest Snapdragon mid-range processors. It comes with big and tall display with some trendy colors to choose from. There is a Dual camera module, big battery, and a headphone jack but it lacks the fingerprint scanner. Without waiting, let’s take a look a the complete Vivo Y93 review.

Vivo Y93: Design
The Vivo Y93 is one of the new budget smartphone offerings by Vivo. It comes with a plastic build which has a Dual Tone glossy texture to make it look more premium. The quality of the plastic is good and it feels smooth as well but it’s nowhere as premium as a Glass build smartphone. There are two colors options to choose from- Starry Black, and Sunset Red. We preferred the Starry red because of its unique design in the budget smartphones.

Since the back is made of plastic, the smartphone feel smooth to touch and fits comfortably in hands due to its compact dimensions. The Vivo Y93 feels light at 164 grams but it’s surely not the slimmest at 8.3 mm thickness. Although, single hand usage is difficult since the display is tall enough to trigger your other hand to reach the top. With budget price comes the compromises. The Vivo Y93 lacks water resistance, fingerprint scanner, and wireless charging but still manages to keep the headphone jack.
Starting with the front, there is a big display with a tiny water drop notch where the front camera, proximity sensor, and the earpiece resides. While the left side houses a SIM tray, the Volume keys and the Power key can be found on the right. There is a Micro USB charging port at the bottom flanked by a speaker grill and headphone jack. Moving to the back, there is a Dual camera unit with flash but no fingerprint scanner.
Display with a Water Drop Notch
One of the finest thing that smartphone manufacturers are doing is using a big display even on their budget smartphones. With that being said, the Vivo Y93 is no exception here as it comes with a 6.2 inch IPS LCD display with a water drop notch up top. The notch is pretty small so it doesn’t take a huge part of the content, however, it can also be masked by changing an option in the settings.

While the screen size is good on the Y93, the screen resolution is 720 x 1520 with a pixel density 271 pixels-per-inch. It’s not the highest we have seem in the segment but still it’s good enough for good media consumption experience. The individual pixels are visible if you take a closer look of the screen but it’s not an issue considering the price. Also, the colors are good and the viewing angles are also great, however, the sunlight visibility is below average. Overall, it’s a solid display for watching movies, TV series etc.
Performance and Software
The Vivo Y93 is one of the device which comes with the latest Snapdragon SoC. Under the hood, there is the latest mid-range Snapdragon 439 chipset which is based on 12 Nanometer architecture. It is an Octa-core SoC which can reach a max frequency of 1.95Ghz. There is also a new Adreno 505 GPU which takes is capable of handling some light GPU related tasks.

Talking about the performance, it is surely an upgrade over the last gen processors but the chip itself isn’t capable of handling heavy or intense tasks. You can play PUBG on the Vivo Y93 but the experience isn’t going to be smooth. Games like Subway Surfer, Candy Crush works just fine and basic app like Instagram, Whatsapp, Google Chrome etc works smoothly. With Day-to-day usage, there are no issue with the performance and 4GB of RAM help with multitasking. The internal storage is limited to 64GB but there is a micro SD card which can be used to expand the memory up to 256GB.
The Vivo Y93 runs on Android 8.2 Oreo with Funtouch OS 4.5 atop. Those who have used the Vivo phones earlier must be familiar with the no app drawer interface. The software is filled with pre-installed bloatware, although, some of which can be uninstalled. Also, the interface resembles to the iOS as I said in previous Vivo smartphone reviews too like swipe up for bringing control center which includes stoggles for GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth etc. With Vivo Y93, the chance of getting the latest Android Pie is low but not completely zero.
Camera and Battery Life

The Vivo Y93 comes with three camera sensors with two of them placed on the back while one is placed on the front. Out of the rear two sensors, the primary camera is a 13 Megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture while the secondary camera is a 2 Megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. Up front, there is an 8 Megapixel selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture. The camera app is pretty basic anc has useful feature like HDR, panorama, Portrait etc. With the primary module, the Y93 is capable of recording videos in 1080p @ 30 fps but there is no OIS or EIS for stability control.
Both the rear cameras and the front camera takes respectable pictures outdoors in broad daylight, however, the quality falls considerably with respect to light. Day time shots have nice details but the colors are washed out and the dynamic range is average too. Portrait shots aren’t a good story either with just average edge detection. Overall, the camera aren’t any special aspect of the Vivo Y93 but the quality is OKAY for the price.

Although, what’s good here is the 4030 mAh battery which is big enough to last for around 1.5 days or more. Even with some heavy usage (no heavy gaming since it’s no possible), we managed to drain the battery to 40% till the night which was still enough to go through the next half day without plugging in the charger. That means with general usage, you can easily squeeze two days of battery life from the Vivo Y93. With that being said, the Y93 still uses the traditional Micro USB port for charging which is a step backward since many budget phones has already adopted to the latest Type-C trend.
Vivo Y93: More Features
Vivo Y93 supports Dual SIM with Dual standby and VoLTE. The storage is also expandable using a Micro SD card up to 256 GB. There are other connectivity option too which include WIFI, Bluetooth, and A-GPS. Other than that, there are couple of sensors including Accelerometer, proximity, and compass. There is no NFC for instant pairing or IR blaster.
Apart from that, there is no fingerprint scanner as well which means you have to use the traditional unlocking methods like PIN, Pattern or Password to unlock the device. However, there is a Face Unlock option too which unlocks the device by scanning your face but it doesn’t work in the dark and it’s also not secure.
