The Y7 Plus is the latest budget offering from the company Doogee. The major highlights about this device include the Fashionable color profiles and a big battery. It also embraces a notch and comes with a Dual camera unit. The Doogee Y7 Plus looks like a great device so let’s know more about it in our complete review.
Design and Build
One of the most attractive thing about the Doogee Y7 Plus is its design. For starters, there are three color options, Obsidian Black, Phantom Purple, and Aurora Blue. While the Black one isn’t too unique, the Aurora Blue and Phantom Purple do stand out of the crowd. Such color pattern is hard to find on budget smartphones.

The Doogee Y7 Plus has a metal frame which adds a premium feel to the whole body. Although, the device is not slim at all. Due to the big battery it houses, the thickness is 9.4mm and it weighs around 180 grams. However, the sides on the back are curved which makes it easy to grip the device without feeling uncomfortable.
Upfront, the Y7 Plus embraces a notch which houses a earpiece, front camera, and proximity sensor. Also, the fingerprint scanner is right on the front in the chin. On the back, you will find a Dual Camera unit along with a Flash. The phone does come with a headphone jack which is nice to see. Although, it does lack water resistance and wireless charging which is pretty common with budget devices. Overall, the design and color profiles look really awesome.
Screen
The Doogee Y7 Plus has adopted a notch and while it does makes the display big and immersive, the bezels aren’t that small and there is an obvious chin at the bottom. It comes with a 6.18inch IPS LCD screen with has FullHD 2280 x 1080 resolution and a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch. The display is covered by a layer of 2.5D curved glass and has a 19:9 aspect ratio.

Moving on to the screen quality, the colors are good and it’s vibrant too. The viewing angles are good but the sunlight visibility is pretty average. Also, the big chin takes away the notch factor really soon. We watched a couple of episodes of Big Bang Theory and we enjoyed it. The screen is good but it’s not the best in the segment. It also comes with a pre-applied screen protector for protection against scratches.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the Doogee Y7 Plus comes with MediaTek Helio P20 Octa-Core processor. It has 8 x Cortex-A53 cores which can reach a maximum clock frequency of 2.5GHz. The Helio P20 is a good chip but falls behind compared to its Snapdragon competitors. Accompanied to the P20 comes the Dual-Core Mali T880-MP2 GPU. There is only a single variant of the Y7 Plus which comes with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. You can expand the memory through a MicroSD card up to 128GB.

Using the Doogee Y7 Plus as a daily driver won’t let you down much. It can easily handle day-to-day tasks like champ. USing social media apps, browsing the web, scrolling through the UI feels smooth and completely responsive, however, when it comes to heavy titles like PUBG or Asphalt 9, you will start noticing the flaws. These games can only run at low graphics settings to achieve playable framerate. This means if you are really a hardcore mobile gamer, you should better look for other phones.
Talking about the Software, the Doogee Y7 Plus comes with Android 8.1 Oreo. Although, it’s not the latest as Android Pie is here still its the second latest and does support all the Android apps. The UI feels responsive and the transitions are smooth as well. Thanks to the 6GB RAM, multitasking is a charm with app staying in the memory for long. Overall, the OS feels smooth with one major issue of Software Updates. The update for Android Pie is not confirmed and we don’t know when it arrives.
Camera and Battery Life
The Doogee F7 Plus comes with a Dual Camera module on the back. It comprises of a 16 Megapixel primary sensor along with a 13 Megapixel secondary sensor. Upfront, there is an 8 Megapixel wide angle camera with f/2.0 aperture. The primary camera does support PDAF and has other common features too like Panorama HDR etc. The app is simple to use but there is also a Pro mode for capturing photos the way you want.

Talking about the image quality, it’s good for the price. The images have a nice level of details and good colors. Also, the dynamic range seems pretty good and the images are a little saturated as well. The portrait mode images turn out well with decent background blur but average edge detection. Moving to the front camera, the images turn out fine. The sharpness is there with good colors.
The camera quality does take a nose dive in a low lighting situation. A lot of noise creep in the images making them blurry. Overall, the camera can capture some great looking shots but only when the lighting conditions are good.

Talking about the battery life, the Doogee Y7 Plus houses a 5080 mAh non-removable battery. The battery is big enough to easily provide 2 days of battery life even for the heavy users. We charged the battery completely at 7 AM in the morning, throughout the days we watched some episodes of Sherlock, played some games, used social media apps etc and at the end of the day, the batter was around 47% which is super impressive. You can easily squeeze 2 days of battery life from Y7 Plus.
