Pros
- Comes with a Big Screen
- Good Battery Life
- Runs on Android 8.1 Oreo
- Have Face Unlock and Fingerprint scanner
- Budget-Friendly price tag
Cons
- Weak performance
- Low-resolution screen
- Pretty average camera
Oukitel C12 Pro Design and Build
One of the cons of buying a low budget smartphone is the poor build quality but that’s not actually a total case with Oukitel C12 Pro. Though it is made of Polycarbonate, the plastic is glossy and reflects which looks much better compared to sober colored devices.
The Oukitel C12 Pro is not a thin device since its 9.7mm thick and it’s also not lightweight at 182 gram but surprisingly comfortable to hold and use. One of the reasons of thing might be the soft touch back and curved corners. The device is available in three color options which are Gold, Black, and Purple. The Purple one looks pretty good for the price.
Upfront, there is a notch and it contains an earpiece, front camera, Ambient and Proximity sensor. On the back, you will a Dual Camera module along with the fingerprint scanner and a speaker. Apart from these, the Power key and the Volume rocker is present on the right side while the SIM slot and the Micro SD card slot are on the left. It uses a MicroUSB port for charging and does come with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Overall, the build quality and the design is pretty well for the price and no doubt it lacks the expensive features like Dust and water resistance or Wireless charging.
Display
The Oukitel C12 Pro comes with a 6.18 inch IPS LCD display which is protected by a layer of Asahi Tough Glass. There is also a big notch up top which takes up quite an area, showing very few notifications in the status bar. To keep the price down, Oukitel decided to go for a 480 x 996 which has a pixel density of 192 pixels-per-inch.
Talking about the screen quality, Yeah the colors are vivid and punchy but the viewing angles are certainly below average. Even at a normal viewing distance, you can easily notice individual pixels. However, considering the price, the screen does pretty well. The screen is big and the bezels are thin except the chin. Also, the brightness does well too which makes watching movies or TV shows indoors enjoyable.
Performance and Software
Another thing that Oukitel did to keep the price down is using entry-level hardware. The Oukitel C12 Pro is using an entry-level MediaTek MT639 SoC which is a Quad Core chipset capable of reaching 1.5GHz. For graphics, it uses PowerVR GE8100 which is an entry-level GPU. Also, the C12 Pro comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
Talking about real-world usage, it does well as long as you keep the heavy stuff away from it. Simply putting this, you can do basic tasks like web browsing, using social media, watching movies etc on this device without any lag or hiccups but as soon as you try to play any heavy or medium level game, things change and not for good. The Oukitel C12 Pro can’t handle heavy games like PUBG or Asphalt 9 and if do manage to run them, the frame rates will not be playable. It can only play 2D games like Candy Crush, Subway Surfer etc.
For multitasking, the 2GB RAM doesn’t help too much either unless the apps you are running are basic. The internal storage is pretty low but there is a MicroSD card slot which can be used to expand the memory up to 64GB which you can use to store Movies, TV shows, images etc.
On the software front, the Oukitel C12 Pro runs on Android 8.1 Oreo which is fair but the weak hardware doesn’t allow you to use the full potential of the software. Oukitel should have gone for the Android GO edition but it’s still decent for the price.
Oukitel C12 Pro Camera and Battery
Following the latest trend, the Oukitel C12 Pro does come with a Dual Camera module. The Dual camera unit comprises an 8 Megapixel sensor along with a 2 Megapixel secondary sensor. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel sensor for capturing selfies and more. The camera app does come with all the basic features like HDR, Panorama, Video recording etc.
Talking about the image quality, don’t get you ho[es too high. Since it’s an entry-level device, the camera arrangement is also pretty basic and it can capture some decent photos in only good lighting condition. The images become unusable when captured during night time. Well, the same story pretty much follows on the selfie front as well capturing decent hots in the daytime and unusable shots at night. Overall, the camera quality is pretty much average.
Oukitel C12 Pro does come big a decently sized battery. The battery capacity is 3300 mAh and it isn’t removable. Although the battery seems pretty average, the low-resolution screen does help is providing a great battery life since there are fewer pixels to push compared to FullHD screens. During the test period, we were able to get around 6 hours of Screen-on-time which is pretty awesome. Simply putting, the battery can easily last a day or more. Hence, the battery life is pretty good for the price.
More Features
The Oukitel C12 Pro is a device which supports dual SIM with VoLTE. It does come with a Micro SD card slot for memory expansion up to 64GB. Other connectivity options on the device include WIFI, GPS, and Bluetooth. The list of sensors on the device includes Accelerometer, E-Compass, Gravity Sensor, Gyroscope, and Proximity sensor although, it does not include NFC or IR blaster.
The C12 Pro does come with a rear mounted Fingerprint scanner can be reached easily. It does the job, unlocking the device quickly and every time. No doubt it’s a reliable sensor but it’s not the only way to unlock the device. The device also comes with a Face Unlock feature which is fairly quick in unlocking the device by scanning your face.
There is a single speaker on the back which is decent considering the price. It does get loud but the audio quality is flat and it really lacks bass. However, for the price it’s enough and also the device does come with a headphone jack which allows you to connect with an external speaker of your choice.
