The Ulefone Armor 6 is a rugged and sturdy device from Ulefone specially designed for people who do construction jobs, cycling, rock climbing etc. It is an armored device which is shockproof and waterproof making it suitable even for the harshest environment. Hardware wise, the device packs a powerful SoC and some other premium features as well. To know more, check out our complete Ulefone Armor 6 review.

Ulefone Armor 6 Design and Appearance

Unlike the traditional smartphones, the Ulefone Armor 6 is bulky, heavy and made of TPU and metal frame. Why? As the name suggests, the Armor 6 is an armored device which makes it waterproof and shockproof. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s a highly suitable device for construction workers, people who regularly go on adventures like rock climbing etc The Armor 6 has a rugged back design and screws can be found on the body to keep the structure intact.

With such a heavy and rugged body, handling the device also becomes an issue. However, the Ulefone Armor 6 is surprisingly easy to grip and use even at 228 gram and 13.3 mm thickness. It is only available in two color options which are Red and Black, although, the Red one is mostly Black with Red highlights. The Armor 6 does have an IP68 certification for Dust and Water resistance and support wireless charging as well.

On the front, there is a big display with a big notch as well. The notch contains an earpiece, front camera, and the usual array of sensors. Both the sides of the device are heavily armored with Volume and the Power Key on the right and SIM Tray on the left. The Type-C charging port is at the bottom which is covered with a rubber flap to keep the water out. Sadly, there is no headphone jack on the device but it does come with a Type-C to 3.5mm dongle. On the back, there is a Dual camera unit along with a Fingerprint scanner and UV sensor. Overall, Armor 6 is a rugged device which can withstand some heavy drops and water with ease.

Full HD Screen with Gorilla Glass 5

The screen on the Ulefone Armor 6 is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, following the rugged and sturdy theme. It sports a 6.2 inch IPS LCD panel which has a Full HD 2246x1080 pixel resolution and a pixel density of 401 pixels-per-inch. There is also a notch upfront which is small compared to the iPhone X but bigger when compared to the OnePlus 6. Also, the phone comes with a Screen protector as well which can be found in the box.

The screen on the Ulefone Armor 6 is surprisingly good. Starting off with the resolution, it’s high enough to make the visuals sharp and crisp. Also, the colors on the screen are vivid which makes watching movies and playing games much enjoyable. The viewing angles are good, and the screen is surprisingly bright as well. While there is a notch and Ulefone has tried to make the screen as immersive as they can, the armored sides aren’t thin and the chin is big as well. However, for a rugged device, it is one of the best screens you can possibly get. Overall, the screen is pretty sharp and good making up for an amazing viewing experience.

Decent Performance and Software

Just like the study and rugged design, the performance is powerful as well. It comes with a 64 Bit MediaTek Helio P60 which is an Octa-Core processor which maxes out at 2.0 GHz. Also, it comes with Mali G72 MP3 GPU for gaming and stuff. The chip is comparable to the performance of Snapdragon 625 which is good for doing some heavy stuff. It is available is only a single variant of 6 GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

Performance wise, the Ulefone Armor 6 is no joke. The chip is powerful enough to play even some demanding games like PUBG, although, you need to change the graphics setting to medium. During our testing, we played PUBG and it worked really well with consistent frame-rates. With basic tasks like Web browsing, social media, and more, the performance is superb with no lag or hiccups. Even multitasking is smooth and heavy apps stay in the memory long enough due to the 6GB of RAM. The base storage of 128GB is plenty enough even for some hardcore users but if you need more, you can expand the memory using a MicroSD card up to 256GB, although, it requires you to sacrifice the second SIM slot.

Talking about the software, the Ulefone Armor comes with Android 8.1 Oreo which is customized by Ulefone itself. The UI doesn’t feel stock as the icons are squared rather than rounded and there are some additional apps which come pre-installed. Although, the additional apps are there to utilize the extra and useful sensors on the device which we will talk about later. Overall, the software feels pretty smooth and everything works well and good.

Armor 6 Camera and Battery Life

Although the Ulefone Armor 6 is not heavily focused on photography, the camera specs are still pretty great. It comes with a Dual camera setup which comprises of a 21 Megapixel primary sensor along with a 13 Megapixel depth sensor. On the front, there is another 16 Megapixel sensor for capturing selfies. The camera app comes with all the common features like Panorama, PDAF, HDR, Video recording etc.

Even though the camera unit looks high-end on papers, the quality isn’t that great. It captures some above average shots in good lighting conditions with the high amount of details. However, the colors are a bit toned down which is the result of image processing. The images quality further decreases in low lighting conditions. Portrait mode shots are good but no the best in the price range. The front 16 Megapixel sensor captures some highly detailed selfies in good lighting condition but loses its edge when the light in the area decreases. Overall, the camera quality is pretty good until you are a camera enthusiastic who require on-point image quality.

Moving on to the battery life, the Ulefone Armor 6 packs a 5000 mAh battery which isn’t removable. During the testing period, the battery on the device provided 7–8 hours of Screen-on-time which means it can easily last 2 days with moderate to heavy usage. Although, the accurate number will only depend upon the user only. Also, the Armor 6 does support 18W Fast charging which can completely charge the device in around 2 hours. Another thing which really impressed me is the support for (10W) Wireless Charging. You can use any Qi-wireless charging pad to charge the device without any issue.

More features

The Ulefone Armor 6 does come with a Hybrid SIM slot which can be used for either 2 SIMs with Dual Standby or 1 SIM and 1 MicroSD card of up to 256GB. It does support LTE and VoLTe and other connectivity features include WIFI, Bluetooth, and GPS. There are a bunch of sensors on the device including some special sensors to help people in various activities. Some of the sensors are Proximity, Light, Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope, Fingerprint, Barometer, Pedometer, UV sensor, Sound Meter etc. Also, the device does come with NFC which allows you to pay wirelessly.

The UV sensor on the device is for detecting the UV index in the area allowing the user to take precautional measures accordingly. Apart from these, the device also includes a Fingerprint sensor on the back. It’s a good sensor which detects the finger accurately and unlocks the device instantly. There is a Face Unlock feature too which is convenient and fast. Just raise the device so that it can scan your face and unlock the device instantly.
