Unboxing

The Mi Air Purifier 2S comes in a cardboard box which seems to be of average quality. Opening up the lid by removing the tape, you will find the Air Purifier covered by thermocol protectors at all corners. One thing that you will immediately notice is the absence of a power cord and socket but don’t worry, they are hidden inside the purifier itself. Remove the back panel of the Air Purifier and you will find the Power cord and Adapter wrapper in protective covers along the main filter. There is also a User Manual inside which will help you with the working of the purifier. Remove everything from the inside except the Air Filter and close the back panel. Overall, the unboxing experience wasn’t something exceptional but it’s good for the price you pay.

Mi Air Purifier 2S Build Quality and Design

One thing that we immediately noticed about the Mi Air Purifier 2S is how well the build quality is. It has a tower structure cuboid shaped design which not only makes it compact but also increases the efficiency of air filtration. Also, the purifier is lightweight too at just 4.5 Kg with filter included, however, lightweight doesn’t mean cheap build quality. In fact, the Air Purifier 2S has a premium and sturdy build quality much better when compared to its competition.

Talking about the design, the air purifier has a very minimal design with just a circular OLED screen on the front panel and you can place it anywhere in the house without attracting much attention too it. The outer body of the purifier has 943 air intake holes. These holes create a 360° cyclical air filtration pathway which is efficient for air filtration. Up at the top is a Fan which expels the fresh air out of the Air purifier. There is also a laser sensor on the top which detects the AQI level in the room.

The back panel of the purifier is removable and it’s where the Air Filter resides. There is a button on the back to reset the Air purifier. Also, there is a port on the back as well which is used to connect the power cord. Overall, the Mi Air Purifier 2S is built well and feel premium with a minimal and compact design. However, it is only available in White color only.

OLED Display

One of the most highlighted changes in the Mi Air Purifier 2S compared to the previous generation purifier is the presence of a display. However, it’s not just any display, it is a high-quality OLED screen. The screen circular in shape and shows various important stats like the Air Quality Index (AQI), PM Level, Humidity, the mode in which the purifier is currently working and more. When you turn ON the air purifier, it also shows the remaining life of the air filter which is great as you can easily know when to replace the filter with a new one. There is also a Laser sensor which also doubles as an ambient light sensor adjusting the brightness of the screen depending upon the surrounding light. It’s great to see an OLED screen on an air purifier this cheap considering some expensive air purifiers doesn’t have one.

Filtration, Usage, and Performance

The Mi Air Purifier uses a 3 layer filtration technique to clean the polluted air effectively. Through the 943 holes, the device takes the polluted air in and using the 3 layer filter, purifies the air and expels it through the fan up top. Let’s talk about the layers of the Air Filter

• The outer layer is made with Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) which filter heavy dust particles, hair, Floccules, small paper, and wood particles.
• The middle layer is a dense EPA filter which filters out respirable particles using H11 grade filtration technology thus allowing the clean air to pass through it.
• Lastly, the third layer is an activated carbon filter which filters out harmful chemicals like Ammonia, Formaldehyde etc. It also removed any harmful odors from the air thus providing fresh odor-free air.

With that being said, the Air Filter in the Purifier lasts for around 6 months but it could be less depending upon the pollution in your area. Using the contaminated filter for long can adversely affect your health which makes it important to replace the filter when necessary. Although, there is no need to worry as the Purifier notifies you when to change the filter. Also, changing the filter is easy, just pull out the old filter and pop in the new one.

There is a Particulate Matter laser sensor which is located on the top of the Air Purifier which can detect particles as small as 0.3 μm and display the Air Quality Index on the screen. It also doubles as an Ambient Light Sensor which adjusts the brightness of the screen depending upon the surrounding light.

We at ValueQ have been using the Mi Air Purifier 2S and we are totally impressed by its performance. A few days back, the PM 2.5 Estimate shower a reading of around 200 which is not good for health. As we turned On the Air Purifier, it worked at max for a couple of minutes and soon the reading dropped to below 75. Not only the reading, but we did also notice the improved quality and the freshness of the air in the room. The purifier has a maximum CADR value of 310m³/h which means it can circulate clean and fresh air in a 21m² room within 10 minutes. It is able to clean the air in an area of 37m² max effectively.
